WHAT IS THE PTM?
PTM stands for Parents and Teachers for McKinley. Our PTM is a way to formally organize our body of parents to focus on supporting McKinley students. We work in partnership with the Staff and Administration to support the key priorities of the McKinley school community.
We are:
- A nonprofit 501(c)3 organization
- Governed by our PTM Bylaws
- Led by an elected volunteer Board of Directors
- Free to all parents and staff at McKinley (no dues or applications)
WHAT DOES THE PTM DO?
The main role of the PTM is to build strong working relationships among parents, teachers and the school, in support of students. This can include recruiting and coordinating volunteers, providing special recognition in awards ceremonies or through other activities, organizing parent education events, planning teacher appreciation activities and much more.
We are a group of dedicated parents and teachers doing what a PTA does best: providing resources and programs to all families.
We address issues that are important to parents and public school administrators. We fight for full funding, quality teachers, and capabilities for schools to thrive.
Parent involvement links the school and the home together. Any volunteer time you give will directly benefit your child by carrying forth the PTM objectives.
WHAT ARE THE PTM’S OBJECTIVES?
- Make all children feel important, special, capable, and part of the community.
- Increase parent participation.
- Assist and support the school staff by working in cooperation with them to bring together home and school.
- Plan programs and activities to meet the needs of our children and the community.
- To raise funds that are necessary for PTM’s year planned activities, which enrich our children’s school experiences.
Remember, parent involvement increases student success.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
As a PTM member, there are a number of ways for you to support the school and get involved through your time and/or financial contributions.
YOUR TIME: There are numerous volunteer opportunities waiting for you! To see volunteer opportunities visit our page here.
YOUR TALENT: If you have a special skill, talent or expertise that would enhance our students learning, you can work with the Staff to see how that could be presented and/or fit into the curriculum.
FUNDRAISING: Fundraising is part of what the PTM does and requires a great deal of funding to continue to provide the enrichment opportunities for our students. To financially support the many programs, with your help, the PTM will need to raise money each year. Learn about our fundraisers here.
COMMUNITY EVENTS: We have a number of community events designed to bring us together as a community, which allows us the opportunity to stay connected to our children by being part of their world at school. Mark your calendars when you see these events announced and come join in the fun!
